Two Day Weekend Workshop

May 28 - May 29, 10 am - 3 pm (handbuilding experience needed)

  • Starts 28 May
  • 400 British pounds
  • Queen's Yard

Join me for a weekend long workshop where you will learn how to coil a bellied Woman Vessel. I will share knowledge that was passed to me while visiting clay communities around the world, and things that I’ve found helpful during my personal experience with clay. I will guide you through the making process of this shape that uses coiling in various ways, all of which we will explore together. From changing direction as you build up, to horizontal coiling, use of supports, and other valuable tips I will help you create your own iteration of this shape with hope to open new directions for your own practices. The examples shown below are my own iterations of the form that we will work on. Please note that they are shown here only for reference to understand how far this curve can go. This workshop will benefit those who have some experience with clay and are looking to develop their hand-building skills. There will be a maximum of 6 people attending. All materials provided. Your work will be fired for you and collection will be arranged via email in due time. Please note that these shapes require a very slow drying cycle in order for the clay to shrink evenly as the water leaves the body and avoid cracks. Therefore, it is 8 weeks time before your piece will be fired and ready to collect. The workshop will take place at the studio: Unit 9D, Queen's Yard, E9 5EN, London. Both sessions will last 5 hours with a short break in between. Serving coffee and tea as you arrive, delicious food from my neighbours at the Doh Bakery will follow. Please let me know if you have any allergies or dietary requirements. 10% of the proceeds will be donated to Choose Love, an organisation that provides vital support to the refugee crisis.
