While I’ve long said I work with clay, I’m learning to say I work with fire, too. This piece emerged from a recent wood-firing — a process that continues to reshape how I relate to fire in my practice. Clay and I take credit for the form; the fire takes credit for the surface. Each piece holds the imprint of a specific moment inside the kiln, sealed beneath a layer of shino glaze.
Woman 361: The flame here appears to have moved across the top and back, leaving a quieter space at the front. That sense of 'emptiness' offers the eye a place to rest, before catching on the details — crackled glaze, scattered ash, and soft blushes throughout.
