Develop Your Own Voice
Form Research Program: Structured Support for Independent Ceramic Exploration
Available spots
We all live inside a lineage of forms that came before us. That said, it’s so important to speak your own truth. I know how difficult it can be to shift your thinking once you've pictured something a certain way. When I studied architecture, I learned the value of studying case studies — not to copy them, but to extract the one or two elements that resonate most deeply, and then go have your own conversation with them. This online ceramics course follows that philosophy. Every two weeks, we’ll meet live via Zoom for a demo of a specific curve or form element. Your homework is to develop ideas on how to use that curve in your own hand-built ceramic work and present it after two weeks. Between sessions, you’ll have a brief one-on-one check-in with me to discuss your progress and receive personalised feedback. You’ll focus on parts of forms as inspiration to create unique iterations. By the end, you’ll have strengthened your creative “muscle” and gained confidence in your own ceramic voice. I’ll guide a small group of 8 students, providing personalised feedback and fostering a supportive community. Live group sessions are hosted in English via Zoom every two weeks on Wednesdays at 5:00 PM London time, totalling 7 sessions over 13 weeks. You’ll have a 15-minute one-on-one check-in with me on Wednesdays between 5:00 PM and 7:30 PM London time to discuss your progress and get personalised feedback. We will develop 6 projects in total throughout the course. By the end, I am confident that you will have connected deeply with your intuition, expanding your creative vocabulary and refining the direction in which you want to guide your ceramic practice. You’ll have two weeks to develop each project at your own pace. While the time you spend is up to you, I recommend committing to at least five making/trimming sessions (3 hours each) per project to get the most out of the course. Prior to this course, I recommend having finished TWV Level 1 & 2. To participate you will need: 3 bags of 12.5 kg clay with high grog Knife Needle Metal kidney Serrated kidney Surform Banding wheel (or two sturdy bowls to rotate your work) Hairdryer or heat gun Ruler Wooden surface to work on (optional but recommended) Good internet connection and a camera for our sessions This course is priced at £290 per month, for three months. You will pay the first £290 at booking, with payment links for the second and third instalments due on October 24 and November 24.
